ABOUT

Mara Piccione (Minerva Academy 2002) is a silkscreen printing artist, based in the Netherlands. From her colorful print studio in Warffum she combines her graphic-abstract screen prints with the collage technique. Her roots lie in underground pop culture, designing posters and album art for international bands and venues for many years. Due to the use of graphic techniques, her work has developed from figurative to abstract.

Her visual language is created from everyday finds such as a coffee stain, a kids drawing or a piece of waste wood. A seemingly insignificant object such as a pebble or a trampled tissue can suddenly headline in one of her works. Her studio, the tools and the traces left by the process are also playing a role in her work.  The grid of the cutting mat, the drying racks, the pattern of holes in the screen-printing table and the color testers of the screen-printing inks; they are increasingly reflected in her recent work
